The mission of the Fountain-Fort Carson High School Choral Program is to provide an environment where students achieve the highest levels of musical artistry, make powerful connections and lifelong friendships through singing, cultivate creativity and collaboration, develop an appreciation for a variety of musical styles, and have unique, educational, and fun experiences that students will remember the rest of their lives. We enter as individuals, work as a team, and leave as a choir family.

Mr. Jason Plata - FFCHS Choir Director

Mr. Jason Plata - FFCHS Choir Director

Mr. Jason Plata has worked as a music educator, music pastor, community theater music director, accompanist, and singer for most of his life. Mr. Plata began his choral conducting career at the age of 15, directing his church adult and children's choirs. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Music from Southwestern Assemblies of God University in Waxahachie, Texas. He worked on his Master's Degree under the direction of Dr. John Silantian while at The University of Texas San Antonio.

Mr. Plata has been teaching High School and Middle School choirs since 2005 . Choirs under Jason's direction have accomplished many achievements, such as the Texas UIL Concert/Sightreading Sweepstakes, Outstanding Performance Awards at the Heritage and Director's Choice Festivals, and many more competitions. Students in his choir programs have participated in the Texas Music Educators Association All-State Choir Audition Process, and have advanced from District to Region to Pre-Area to Area and finally to All-State Choirs. In 2017 His Chorale was invited to perform in Carnegie Hall in New York City.

Musical Theater Director credits include Beauty and the Beast, Little Shop of Horrors, Bat Boy, Crowns: An African American Gospel Story, Annie and Hairspray.

Jason moved to Colorado in 2019 and started his career in the Mortgage Industry while maintaining his career in music education. Jason views his move to Colorado as a time of transition, growth, and renewal in his spiritual, mental, and physical life.

Mr. Plata joined the FFCHS staff in August of 2024 and is excited to continue the tradition of Excellence in the music program.

Ms. Aina Zuravlova - FFCHS Choir Accompanist

Ms. Aina Zuravlova is known as a Pianist-accompanist, musicologist, composer. Studied and graduated with honors from the Secondary Specialized Music School in Latvia, then the Moscow Conservatory and postgraduate study at the St. Petersburg Conservatory (Doctor of Art History). Has extensive experience as a music and piano teacher, as well as an accompanist for choirs and vocalists in Latvia. She has been working at FFC High School since February 2024.

Cantari

Cantari Mixed Chorus _{(Italian meaning “to sing”)} - Cantari is an advanced mixed chorus of auditioned singers who are established in the music program as intermediate to advanced level singers and sight-readers. Sight-reading is based on the Kodály Method. The Kodály method uses a system of movable-do solfège syllables for sight-singing: scale degrees are sung using corresponding syllable names (do, re, mi, fa, so, la, and ti). The syllables represent scale degree function within the key and the relationships between pitches, not absolute pitch.

Cantari students perform in various concerts and contest throughout Colorado Springs and the State. Cantari has been invited to perform in many different functions throughout the city. Cantari students perform Advanced Mixed Chorus literature.

Bella Voci

Bella Voci Women’s Chorus _{(Italian meaning “Beautiful Voice”)} – Bella Voci Women’s Chorus is an auditioned chorus who are acclimated to choral music and are classified as intermediate to advanced singers and sight-readers. Sight-reading is based on the Kodály Method. The Kodály method uses a system of movable-do solfège syllables for sight-singing: scale degrees are sung using corresponding syllable names (do, re, mi, fa, so, la, and ti). The syllables represent scale degree function within the key and the relationships between pitches, not absolute pitch.

Bella Voci students perform in various concerts and contests throughout Colorado Springs and State. This lively group of young ladies perform advanced treble chorus literature showcasing the extraordinary sound of treble voices in harmony.

Concert Choir

Concert Choir (High School Beginning chorus) – Concert Choir is a beginning level chorus which no audition is requires. Concert Choir can be mixed or treble choir voices. No previous choral experience or sight-reading experience is necessary to join. Sight-reading is based on the Kodály Method at the beginning level. The Kodály method uses a system of movable-do solfège syllables for sight-singing: scale degrees are sung using corresponding syllable names (do, re, mi, fa, so, la, and ti). The syllables represent scale degree function within the key and the relationships between pitches, not absolute pitch.

Trojanaires Show Choir

Trojanaires Show Choir – Trojanaires is a show choir which combine singing with choreographed dance routines and creative costumes. This entertaining group perform genres such as: Jazz, modern pop or musical theater, and are different from traditional choirs which typically use more classical music.

Students are an auditioned group of students who can join with no previous choral or sight-reading experience. Please contact Mr. Plata if you wish to have Trojanaires at your event.
